I AM BREATHING

 

During all yoga classes today, we practiced: 

Following the breath in and out, mentally repeating: “Breathing in, I am breathing in” during Inhalations.  

“Breathing out, I am breathing out” during Exhalations.

Allows the mind to be one-pointed.  Staying in the present moment.

 

MINDFULNESS

 

MINDFULNESS means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non judgmentally.” -  Jon Kabat-Zinn

It is Focusing attention to THIS present Moment.  Letting go of the past.  Letting go of the Future.  And just paying attention to whats happening NOW.  Not a day, a week, an hour, or even a second before or after.

Try it.  

 

 

 

SHAVED HEAD

 

A student I hadn’t seen in weeks came to class with a shaved head today.  I thought she looked great.  She had really long hair just a month ago.

I guessed that she had gone to India and did it for religious reasons.  And she had, as if an offering to the gods she said — her hair.

I was happy for her.

Then I went on about when I was in India, to teach the yoga teacher training course, how a few of the students, near the end of the course, shaved their heads.  

The philosophy of DETACHMENT.  It is what you are most attached to, that you should learn to live without.

I spoke to one of the students who shaved their heads, who was the only male (the rest of the students who shaved their heads were female).  He said that he was way too attached to his hair.  THAT’S how he knew he needed to DETACH.

I’ve always admired that.  Though I had never been that attached to my own hair.  I figure it’ll grow back.  And my hair grows back fast.

 

 

SIMPLIFY

 

Simplify. by Bill Hybels says that “Your calendar is more than merely an organizer of what needs to get done.  It’s the primary tool for helping you BECOME WHO YOU WANT TO BECOME.”

He believes that to live a “Simplified Life”, we need to create room for both our outward activities and inner priorities (such as God, Family, Health, Passions). 

What is REALLY important to you?  And are you giving them enough of your Time, Effort, Attention, Love?

 

 

ATTENTION TO PEACE, LOVE, JOY

 

Let’s bring attention to Peace, Love, Joy.

I suggest removing words like these from your dictionary:

Depression/ Hatred/ Failure/ Illness/ Disease/ War/ Fights/ Anxiety/ Struggle/ Debt/ Enemies/ Terrible/ Accidents

Changing your thoughts will help you channel your Energy & your Life accordingly. 

Create a future with Abundance of Peace, Love, Joy, Prosperity.  Use words such as these from now on.

 

 

ENERGY FLOWS WHERE ATTENTION GOES

 
It's true that Energy Flows where Attention Goes.
Everything is ENERGY.  WE are Energy.
I read this again today -- so instead of saying: "I don't want War." say "I want Peace." 
Then your attention is on Peace, so you are giving your Energy to Peace and Law of Attraction will match your Energy with Peace and 
Instead of saying "I don't want to fail." say "I want to Win"
Instead of saying "I don't want to be fat." say "I want to be slim"
Instead of saying "I don't want to have a struggling job" say "I want to have a happy and exciting job"
Instead of saying "I don't want to fight with my husband" say "I want to have a happy relationship with my husband"
And so on..
Stop thinking and talking about things that you don't want and only say what you DO want.
 

THE THING THAT WE AVOID

 

Yesterday I talked about migraines and yoga.  I couldn’t help but tell all my other classes about it.  

One of the postures this yogi specifically mentioned was Matsyasana (Fish posture).  She did Not like the posture at all!  It was most difficult for her at first, almost impossible.  And of course, class after class, she became more and more comfortable with it.  She credits the posture to have helped her neck, thus her migraine.  (Yes she has had major neck issues as well)

The reason I am writing about this Fish-posture-story is that, oftentimes, it is the Thing that we Avoid, or is difficult to face, that we NEED the most.  It is the ONE that will solve our issue, once and for all.  

I notice myself doing that for sure.  

Why the avoidance?  

Is it the Fear of failing?  Or the fear of Finally succeeding at solving an issue, therefore having to deal with other issues thereafter?

 

IT'S RAINING!

 

I just had a student tell me her Migraines are now non-existent since she started taking yoga classes in January.  She used to get them 4 to 8 times per month!

I have heard that yoga cures headaches many times before.  Heck it cured/cures mine! But it still made me emotional to hear this today.  I’m so so glad for her.  

She said, especially on rainy days, she would just shut the lights off and lay down.  And today, her fiancé was surprised to see her up and moving. 

“It’s raining!” he said to her.

“I know!” she replied!  

She said that she even Almost lost her last job because of these migraines.  

She had mentioned to her fiancé that she didn’t know if she could take care of kids because of these migraines.  She couldn’t even take care of their dog with the headache!  

It came out of her mouth:  Yoga changes your life!

I hope you allow it to change yours.

 

FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF MEDICAL SCIENCE

 

Why Meditation is necessary from the point of view of Medical Science?

It says: From the time of the birth till death the heart works continuously. Everyday the heart pumps 7000 liters of blood, of which 70% blood is pumped to the Brain and the remaining 30% to the rest of body.

How does the heart work so efficiently and effectively ?

Heart works effectively because it follows a discipline. In normal conditions the heart takes 0.3 secs to contract (systole) and 0.5 secs to relax (diastole).

So 0.3+0.5=0.8 secs are required by the heart to complete one beat (1 cardiac cycle). 

That means in 1 min, the heart beats 72 times which is considered as normal heart beat. 

During the relaxing phase of 0.5 secs the impure blood travels through the lungs and becomes 100 % pure.

In some stressful conditions , the body demands more blood in less time and in this situation the heart reduces the relaxing period of 0.5 secs to 0.4 secs...Thus in this case the heart beats 82 times in 1min and only 80% of blood gets purified. 

On more and more demand the relaxing time is further reduced to 0.3 secs & then only 60% of blood is purified.

Imagine the consequences of the lesser Oxygenated blood circulating in our Arteries !

Deep Breathing , is the key to ensure better Oxygenation of the blood.

Factors responsible for the activity of the brain :

1. 25-30% is due to the Diet we consume.

2.70-75% is due to the emotions, attitude,

memories and other processes of the brain.

Thus, to calm the brain and reduce the demand on the heart to pump more and more blood ,

brain needs to be given a rest.

Meditation is the most useful tool to calm an agitated mind.

When we sit with eyes closed and meditate, the brain gets calmer, heart gets rested, thus insulating us from the Diseases of the Heart & Brain.

 

MEDITATION IS THE KEY TO THE REAL HEALING.

 

INTUITION

 

They say that practicing Yoga heightens intuition.  They say that thousands of years ago, we didn’t verbally “Speak” to one another.  We communicated through our intuition.  I truly believe that!

During my yoga teacher training course at the Sivanada Yoga Ashram, when I thought or wished for something to happen, it soon certainly did!  Exactly as I had wished.

In the last few days, my intuition has been frighteningly sharp, in both directions.

Friday, as I closed the door to my car, this special lady entered my thoughts.  I was wondering whether she had kids, and how many.  And just a few seconds later, as I walked into the building, someone called out my name oh so brightly.  Guess who it was!  And she was with one of her kids!

I then walked a few more feet into a yoga class and decided to get them into a version of child’s pose I’d Never done before.  The students were amazed at how they were just talking about that exact pose before I walked in.  They only told me After we had finished the posture.  They couldn’t stop talking about it.  I don’t think they even noticed the coincidence until After the fact.

This afternoon, since this college course is ahead of schedule, I decided to ask them if they wanted to go over anything at all.  I wanted to do a restorative type of yoga practice.  Guess what!  One of the students asked for “Restorative Yoga”!

People call, text, email, as I am thinking of them.  One of my very close friends and I were even texting one another AT THE SAME TIME just yesterday!

It’s fun!  I am grateful.  It really is something else.  If we can all just hone our intuition, then maybe this world would be a much kinder space.
