CALM BEFORE THE STORM

Students sometimes tell me about other yoga instructors.  I realize that some teachers use (or see) teaching as an opportunity for therapy, for themselves.  They talk about their current issues/hardships IN class.

Maybe they hope that others could learn from their situation.  Though others may just be so self-involved that all they can manage is the situation in their own lives (and heads), even DURING class.

Students come to yoga for peace and serenity, or so I think.  We do not need to constantly know about the teacher’s problems, no matter how comedic.

Today, the teacher I went to, was just that.

All she could talk about was the party she was having at her house in the afternoon.

I understand it’s stressful to be having 60 people over in a matter of hours.  I understand how stressful it may be to have your in-laws flying in an hour.  (Though having relatives and friends come and party is a Gift.  I would find excitement in that more than anything.)

She said that she decided, teaching was what she needed that morning.  She called it “the calm before the storm”.

Fine.  But can I still have my peace and serenity?

Even during our final Shavasana (relaxation) she told an entire story of her pain last Monday.

Maybe others were inspired.  I hope others were inspired.
