As I was walking into the building to teach yoga this morning, I saw a couple of students signing up for the class. I love this place. The energy, the students, the other teachers.
The 2 students made me smile. One of them had generously offered me a ride to the body shop last year, and the other accompanied us. I saw their heart and generosity then, and will never forget it.
I say all this because when I said hello to them up close and personal, they noticed and asked me, “Why are you so happy?”
I hadn’t recognized my own bright disposition until they mentioned it. I was stuck for a moment and had to pose that same question within.
I had no answer for them. Though I became aware of my smile from ear to ear. I was dumbfounded. I thought, maybe something did just happen to me right before I saw them. But NO, nothing extraordinary. The fact was: I was just happy to see them. They make me smile. They are special to me. They make me happy. People make me happy,
It doesn’t take much to make me smile.
Then later, on my WhatsApp, I read this cartoon sticker.
One monk asked another, “Why are you so happy?!?”
“I have no idea!” said the other.
The message is: Be happy for no reason. If you’re happy for a reason, you’re in trouble because that reason can be taken away.”
I hope I am on the right track.
